My name is John Dumas and I am a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Brookfield, Illinois and a contributor to the faithinbrookfield blog. As the leader of Faith’s Mission Team, my blog postings will primarily revolve around mission projects and ways to serve the community and beyond. As we have found at Faith, there is an unlimited number of ways we can help those in need and I look forward to hearing suggestions from all of you as well.

My interest in mission did not come to me naturally. I am an accountant by profession, so my natural inclination was toward numbers more than people. A decade ago or so, I was elected president of Faith’s Congregation Council. During my term, I was approached by another member of the Council, the late Diane Solberg, who was concerned that Faith did not have an organized mission program. At that time my concern was with growing the church and assuring the congregation’s viability into the future. I soon learned that mission projects are the best way to grow a church. Before her untimely passing in a auto accident, Diane taught me a lot about the power and importance of mission programs and I will always be grateful for all that she did for Faith and for our community.

I look forward to sharing what I have learned and also learning from all of you as well. I plan to update this blog weekly so please check back and if you find this topic to be interesting to you, I hope you will subscribe as well.
